We are looking for Trustees!
About Us:
Ilminster Arts Centre was established in 1995 and will celebrate its 30th anniversary this year. It is a registered charity devoted to bringing arts to the community and supporting artists and performers. It is open to the public five days a week (09.30 - 15.00, Tuesday to Saturday).
The Centre is largely run by a team of volunteers, including a board of trustees, and is based in an historic former chapel in the heart of the town. Its principal activities include evening concerts, a varied programme of creative classes with experienced tutors, art exhibitions featuring the works of premier painters and sculptors, and a shop showcasing and selling handmade gifts by local craft makers. An independently-run café offers a range of refreshments and light meals. The centre also houses the local tourist information point.
About the role:
Board members ensure the effective governance of the Ilminster Arts Centre and serve as advocates of the organisation. Trustees are the legal directors of the charity and we are therefore looking for dedicated individuals who can contribute to the organisation’s development, sustainability and success. You will need a passion for and understanding of the arts, and cultural sectors and an awareness of the challenges that Arts organisations face.
Previous board experience is not necessary, but would be advantageous. This is a voluntary role and due to the nature of the organisation, we are looking to appoint Trustees who are fairly local and who are willing to get stuck in and with a ‘hands on’ approach. Successful applicants will be required to attend monthly board meetings. Some regular time volunteering to support the Arts Centre would also be helpful.
We are looking for people who can bring enthusiasm and experience in one or more of the following fields:
· The arts, heritage or charity sectors
· Finance or accounting
· Business strategy and development
· Fundraising and grants
· Health and safety
· Hospitality
Application in writing should include a CV and cover letter detailing the contribution you could make to the organisation.
